REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested 36 people in Sense Karaoke at Mangga Dua Square Mall in North Jakarta, Wednesday, on charges of distributing and consuming drugs. The BNN made the arrest when it raided the karaoke hall.

The 36 people are karaoke guests and operators believed to be drug traffickers and users, BNN Deputy Head for Eradication Inspector General Arman Depari stated.

"The raid was conducted on Sense Karaoke," he said in a short text message, Thursday.

During the raid, BNN officers also seized crystal meth, ecstasy pills, hashish and ketamine wrapped in small plastic bags as evidence. Shortly after the BNN officers raided the karaoke hall, they sealed it, he said.

The contraband was later taken to the BNN office.

Earlier, National Narcotics Agency (BNN) chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso 'Buwas' asked Jakarta Provincial Government to close 36 discotheque or nightclubs in the capital city. He revealed the nightclubs indicated as location of narcotics and drugs distribution.

Nevertheless, Buwas refused to disclose names of the nightclubs. The data will be given to Anies Baswedan if the Jakarta governor has the willingness to act seriously.

"Our country needs action. If Jakarta Provincial Government seriously will close the nightclubs, I will give the data. If not, so be it," said Buwas on Thursday (Feb 22).
