REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- Gerindra Party confirmed that Prabowo Subianto would not declare his bid for presidency on Wednesday (April 11) night as widely rumored. Gerindra Party Vice Chairman, Arief Poyuono said that the declaration will be conducted after regional election in Banyumas, East Java.

"The declaration will be conducted after we receive letter of our friends National Mandate Party (PAN) and Prosperous Justice Part (PKS) and vice president candidate. It means most likely the declaration will be in Banyumas," said Arief Poyuono to reporters in Padepokan Garudayaksa complex , Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (April 11).

He explained that Banyumas was chosen as the place of declaration because Prabowo's ancestor originated from the city. In addition, Banyumas is considered a region full of history and the city of knights. 

"General Sudirman went on a guerrilla in Banyumas and the city also the place where the nation founders made a declaration of national unity to establish a fully independent Indonesia," he explained. 

Earlier, Gerindra has appointed Prabowo as the 2019 presidential candidate during National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) in Prabowo's residence in Hambalang, West Java on Wednesday.

All members of Gerindra Party cadres in Indonesia gave Prabowo a mandate to determine the coalition and to decide the candidate for his running mate.  Rakornas Gerindra was also attended by Honorary Board Chairman of PAN Amien Rais, PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, PKS President Sohibul Iman, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Uno.
