REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO -- The government will allocate Rp1 trillion for the electrification of Solo-Yogyakarta railway line, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said. He hoped the project can be started this year.
"Hopefully it can be completed in two years' time," he said while visiting Balapan Station here on Sunday.
The Transportation Ministry is identifying the existing problems. If the fund has been approved the project will soon be completed, he said.
"This is a multi-years project whose fund is taken from the state budget," he said.
State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has expressed hope that the electrification of Solo-Yogyakarta railway tracks will be realized soon to cater to the increasing number of train passengers.
"Up till now we have not received the clarity of the project," PT KAI Director Edi Sukmoro said.
