REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State gas firm Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) posted a net profit of US$143.1 million (Rp1.92 trillion) last year. The company also saw its income increase to US$2.97 billion last year, from US$2.93 billion a year earlier, according to a report made available to Antara on Friday.

The income came from gas sales worth US$2.404 billion and oil and gas sales worth US$472.8 million. In 2017, the company recorded an operating profit of US$377.01 million, while its earning before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by US$23 million, from US$807 million the year before to US$830 million.

"We made various efficient efforts and were able to make profit amid the current economic conditions," PGN Corporate Secretary Rachmat Hutama said.

Throughout 2017, PGN distributed 855.5 Billion British Thermal Unit per Day (BBUTD) of natural gas, comprising gas distribution with a volume of 771.55 BBTUD, and gas transmission with a volume of 83.95 BBTUD.

Rachmat said that in line with the government's efforts to boost the national economy, PGN is optimistic that its performance will get even better. This year, PGN will continue to develop natural gas infrastructure to expand the use of gas in the community.

In the fourth quarter of the year, the company's gas pipelines increased by 175 km to 7,450 km or equal to 80 per cent of the national downstream gas pipeline. Through the gas pipelines, PGN has distributed gas to 739 manufacturing industries and power plants, 1,984 commercial customers including hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and small and medium businesses, and 177,710 household customers.
