REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The collapse of the formwork of a pole on the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road in East Jakarta on early Tuesday has caused injuries to seven workers, a police officer stated. The ill-fated workers were identified as Joni Arisman, Rusman, Supri, Kirpan, Sarmin, Agus, and Waldi, East Jakarta Police Chief Sen. Coms. Yoyon Tony Suryaputra remarked here on Tuesday.

Arisman, Rusman, Supri, Kirpan, Sarmin, and Agus were admitted to the Indonesian Christian University Hospital in East Jakarta, while Waldi was hospitalized at a police hospital in Kramatjati, East Jakarta, he revealed.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at 3:04 a.m. local time when the workers were casting a lane wing of formwork of a pole on the Becakayu toll road project but it then collapsed, causing seven workers to fall and get hit by the debris of the casting materials.

As part of the investigation, the police have kept the workers' shirts as part of legal evidence, he stated, adding that several witnesses will be questioned in connection with the incident.

In response to this accident, President Joko Widodo has ordered the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to evaluate and tightly supervise all infrastructure projects following the collapse of a formwork of a pole on Jakarta's toll road that was under construction.

"This morning, I have ordered the Public Works and Public Housing Minister (Basuki Hadimuljono) to tighten his ministry's supervision of infrastructure construction projects," President Widodo noted here following the accident.

Following the accident, the ministry has temporarily suspended all elevated toll road projects that are under construction. The contractors and those in charge of the projects have also been requested to re-submit details on their method of work and supervision procedures.

Over the past six months, Indonesia has borne witness to 14 toll-road-project-related accidents.

"The supervision must be tightened, as we do not just have one but several elevated infrastructure projects, such as a flyover, light rapid transport, toll road, and elevated toll road projects. Hence, we need tight supervision," President Widodo stated.

He noted that the tightened supervision will enable those involved in construction work to avoid technical and human errors.

"It is impossible if such detailed construction projects are just supervised modestly," he added.
