Chinese visitors dominate tourist arrivals in North Sulawesi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- Nearly 84 percent of the foreign tourists visiting North Sulawesi in December 2017 were Chinese nationals. The number of Chinese tourists reached 7,208 people. "It is equals to 83.94 percent of the total foreign tourist arrivals at the Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado," Moh Edy Mahmud, head of the North Sulawesi statistics office, stated here, Friday.

The number of Chinese tourists had increased significantly owing to chartered flights serving the Manado-China route since the last two years.

Singaporean visitors ranked second, with 473 people, or 5.51 percent, followed by tourists from Malaysia, 126 people, or 1.47 percent; the United States, 120 visitors, or 1.40 percent; Germany, 61 travelers, or 0.71 percent; Japan, 51 tourists, or 0.59 percent; the Netherlands, 51 people, or 0.59 percent; France, 36 visitors, or 0.42 percent; Taiwan, 924 travelers, or 0.28 percent; and Australia, 18 tourists, or 0.21 percent.

The Sam Ratulangi International Airport had received a total of 8,587 foreign tourists in December 2017, recording an increase of 33.48 percent from 6,433 foreign tourists in November 2017, or up 124.79 percent from 3,820 foreign tourists in December 2016.
