REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that no reports were received of Indonesian citizens being injured or killed when a magnitude-7.9 earthquake struck the West Coast of the United States on Tuesday.
"No reports (have been received) on Indonesian victims in that incident," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted on Wednesday.
Reuters reported that tsunami warnings were cancelled on Tuesday for the United States West Coast and western Canada after a magnitude-7.9 earthquake struck in the Gulf of Alaska.
The earthquake had sent local coastal residents inland seeking shelter from possible tidal waves.
In Alaska, people sought refuge in high schools and other evacuation centers after the quake hit shortly after midnight local time (9 a.m. GMT).
The quake, initially measured at magnitude 8.2, hit around 250 kilometers (160 miles) southeast of Chiniak, Alaska, at a depth of 25 kilometers at 12:31 a.m. (9:31 a.m. GMT), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
