Ustaz Somad's lawyer to report persecutors to the police

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ustaz (cleric) Abdul Somad's legal counsel, M. Kapitra Ampera said, he will file a police report against several people alleged involved directly and inderectly in the case of "persecution" to his client during a da'wah safari in Bali last weekend.

Kapitra said, ustaz Somad has stated the case should be processed in accordance to the law. Moreover, the persecutors have done sedition, slander, blasphemy, violence, threatening with sharp weapons and even imposed a death threats to ustaz Somad.

"We have identified people who involved directly in the incident," Kapitra said when contacted by Republika.co.id, on Monday (December 11).

He said, five to six people to be reported to National Police headquarter on Tuesday (December 12).

The prosecution, Kapitra said, could not be abandoned. Moreover, ustaz Somad came to Bali upon invitation from local Muslims community.

He stated, cleric Somad was not a person who is against Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) as accused by local youth organization Balinese Citizen Component (KRB).

He explained, ustaz Somad is also a lecturer who devoted himself to the country's younger generation. He had travel far to the remote areas to teach Pancasila and NKRI to the children.  

Meanwhile, director of Bali's branch Legal Aid Institute Center for Advocacy of Law and Human Rights (PAHAM), Ahmad Baraas assessed vigilante acts could damage the legal order in Indonesia. Therefore, there should be law enforcement on the incident.

"We are proud with their spirit to maintain NKRI, but they did it in a wrong way. They hurt the feelings of many people by persecuting ustaz Somad, a cleric who has a positive track record in maintaining NKRI," Baraas said to Republika.co.id, on Monday.

A group of people came to Aston hotel where ustaz Somad stayed during his visit in Bali. They shouted, enter the hotel by force, threatened and urged cleric Somad to stated his loyalty to NKRI.

Ustaz Somad refused to do so as he did not consider himself met the accusation. 

Spokesperson of Bali Police Headquarters, Hengky Widjaja said the incident happened due to miscommunication. The police has mediated the two parties.

"Nevertheless, we will process the case as long as it has criminal element," he said.
