REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUMENEP -- State-run salt producer PT Garam (Persero) has projected to produce 400 thousand tons of salt in 2018 from some 4,500 hectares of its production land.
President Director of PT Garam Budi Sasongko said here, Monday, the company has set its working plan for 2018, including the target for salt production.
"The projection for salt production in 2018 was set at 400 thousand tons under normal weather conditions," he said, adding that there should be no rain during the dry season.
During the past few years, the company's salt production was hindered by abnormal weather, with rainfall during the production period in the dry season.
"Hopefully, we would experience normal weather in 2018. Thus, we can achieve the salt production target of 400 thousand tons," Sasongko noted.
Of the total 5,600 hectares of the company's land in Sumenep, Pamekasan, and Sampang in East Java as well as in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, some 4,500 hectares have been functioning as salt fields.
