REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Criminal observer from Trisakti University Abdul Fickar Hadjar assessed the case of assault against senior investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Novel Baswedan, has been stagnant due to interests and hegemonic power.

"The fact (that Novel case has not been solved) has remind us that law enforcement is never separated from the intervention and hegemony of power, and not free from interests," he said via electronic message to Republika.co.id, Thursday (October 12).

According to Fickar, the stagnancy in investigation of Novel case should be the ground and driving force to form an independent investigation team. 

Meanwhile, KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said the anti-graft body yet has got further information regarding the result of investigation on the chemical liquid attack against Novel. 

"We are still waiting information from the police to uncover identity of the assailants," he said on October 6.

Last October 11 marked six months since the assault against Novel. In April, unidentified men splashed acid liquid to Novel's face and injuring his face and eyes. 

In an interview with Time, Novel claimed he had received information that a police general or a high-level police official was involved in the attack against him.

As one of the KPK's top investigator, Novel has led investigations into several high-profile cases, including the ongoing e-ID card embezzlement case that has implicated several lawmakers and high-ranking government officials.

National Police Chief Tito Karnavian once said that the police were facing difficulties investigating Novel's attack. He also assessed it was easier to apprehend terrorists than Novel's attackers because they left few traces behind.
