Ammonia leak in Vietnam leaves 1,200 evacuated

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, HO CHI MINH CITY -- An ammonia leak on Tuesday in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City left four local people hospitalized and 1,200 other evacuated.

When unloading ammonia from his tank truck to an ammonia station in Binh Chanh district, the 35-year-old driver Nguyen Dinh Hoa caused the leak of the hazardous gas which made him, two workers of the station, and a 60-year-old woman passer-by fainted, the rural district's authorities said.

Right after the leak, fire-fighting and relevant forces evacuated 200 local people and over 1,000 grade students and teachers near the station.
