REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Keadilan said the arrest of more prosecutors on graft charge showed that the Attorney General Office has failed in cleaning itself from corrupt officials.

Apparently, internal control in the prosecution office is not effective as indicated by the fact that the agency is still not free from cases of corruption, chairman of the LBH Keadilan Abdul Hamim Jauzie said.

Since 2008, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has nabbed six prosecutors on charge of graft, Abdul Hamin said in a statement here on Thursday.

The latest case was on Wednesday, when Pamekasan chief prosecutor Rudi Indra Prasetya was caught red handed accepting bribe money related to a legal case.

Rudi was arrested after caught red handed accepting bribe together with and Pamekasan Regent Achmad Syafii, and head of the district inspectorate Sutjipto Utomo, and two civil servants - Dassok village chief Agus Mulyadi and an official of the district inspectorate Noer Solehhoddin.

The five have been named suspects in the graft case, and had been brought to Jakarta for investigations.

Abdul Hamim said LBH Keadilan appreciated KPK, which has continued to show its effectiveness in seeking to stamp out corruption from the country.

The biggest cases involved Urip Tri Gunawan, a senior prosecutor at the Attorney General office arrested in 2008 on charge of receiving a bribe of US$660,000 from businesswoman Artalyta Suryani.

Urip also received Rp1 billion in bribe from former chief of the Indonesian Banking Restructuring Agency Glenn Yusuf. Later Urip was sentenced to 20-years imprisonment. He was released from jail on 12 May 2017 on parole by the Law and Human Right Ministry.

The other four of prosecutors arrested and later imprisoned included Fahri Nurmalo from the Central Java high prosecution official, Devianti Rohaini from the West Java high prosecution office arrested in April, 2016, Farizal from the West Sumatra high prosecution office arrested in September, 2016; Parlin Purba from the Bengkulu high prosecution office arrested in June, 2017.
