REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said the government will build gas pipes for 2,000 more households this year.
"This year, there will be 2,000 more households to be linked with gas pipe networks. Gas producing areas deserve to enjoy gas," the minister said on the sidelines of a seminar on Block A Gas Potential for power plant in Aceh and northern Sumatra here on Friday.
He said from 2009 to 2016, the government built around 4,000 connections of gas pipes for households in Lhokseumawe, Aceh.
"They have gas and they deserve to enjoy the benefit of having gas resources by providing networks of pipes to link with their houses," he said.
He said the government obliges companies operating gas wells to set aside part of their production for local people.
The government sets the portion and quota to be provided for the local people, he said.
