REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale jolted Gunung Kidul District, Yogyakarta, on Thursday, at 11:12 a.m. local time.
The quake's epicenter was located at 9.25 degree southern latitude and 110.42 degree eastern longitude, some 125 km southwest of Gunung Kidul, and at a depth of 23 km, I Nyoman Sukanta, head of the Yogyakarta meteorological, climatology and geophysics office, said here, Thursday.
The tremor was categorized as a shallow one and did not have potential to trigger a tsunami.
The earthquake was felt by inhabitants in Gunung Kidul and Yogyakarta at II-III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI).
