REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- More than one thousand Indonesian nationals in Qatar performed the Eid al-Fitr prayers on Sunday in the hopes of witnessing an early and peaceful resolution to the Qatari diplomatic crisis with some Arab countries.
According to a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Doha published on the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday, the Indonesian community has prayed that the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf, where several Arab countries have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, could soon end peacefully.
A diplomatic conflict has occurred between Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, particularly Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and some other countries.
Indonesia has called on the international community to promote dialog and reconciliation amid the Gulf diplomatic crisis.
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi had welcomed special envoy of the UAE, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, to discuss efforts to reduce tensions and promote dialog in the midst of the Qatar crisis.
The UAE envoy agreed that dialog and political resolution are the only options to resolving the crisis whereas military operation is not an alternative.
