REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- People in Palu asked the local government to conservate sago forest in their area. It was almost vanished by the rapid city development.
Muhlis, a local citizen from Duyu, Tatanga, Palu, said sago forest is important as it was a local characteristic of Palu. "Previously, we had some sago forest spots. We had a spot called 'Bumi Sagu' (the earth of sago), but now it was almost vanished. Only one or two spots we could keep in Pengawu," said him on Monday (May 22).
A member of Palu's House of Representatives Sucipto S Rumu confirmed it during a recess in Duyu. "People in Duyu hope that sago forest in their area could be a source of fresh water," said the politician from Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS).
Rumu said people in Duyu are lack of clean water. It was only met in Sombelewara River. Palu indeed had some water resources. However, the local government needs to provide water clean reservation to meet the people's basic needs.
Dozens of sago forest could also be developed as a green open space. "It can be developed as city park and center of education for public," he said.
