State visit symbolizes strong commitment: Swedish King

President Joko Widodo is welcoming Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf at Bogor Palace, Monday (May 22).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf said his state visit to Indonesia at the invitation of President Joko Widodo symbolizes friendly relations and strong bilateral commitments.

"This collaboration is based on shared common values, such as democracy, freedom of expression and tolerance," King Carl XVI Gustaf said during a joint press conference with President Joko Widodo at the Bogor Presidential Palace here on Monday.

According to King Carl XVI Gustaf, efforts to build infrastructure and manage the energy sector in Indonesia become a great potential for cooperation.

The potential for cooperation is an opportunity for both countries to strengthen bilateral relations and seek sustainable and innovative solutions, he said.

"Indonesia and Sweden also have common interests in developing the education and research sectors," the King stated.

King Gustaf XVI believed such cooperation can provide mutual benefits for both countries.

"I am looking forward to discussing the current and future developments," he said.

President Joko Widodo welcomed King Carl XVI Gustaf at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Monday morning.

The President also invited King Carl XVI Gustaf to plant an ironwood tree and see a replica of the statue of "The Hand of God" by Swedish artist Carl Milles.
