REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated that air toll program will be implemented at a number of points in North Kalimantan and Papua to reduce high price disparities in Indonesia's remote and outlying areas.

"Sea freight to port cities, particularly in Papua and North Kalimantan (Kaltara), is limited. Hence, we have made the air toll program at several points," Budi said at a National Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Thursday.

Papua, Timika, Wamena, and Dekai (Yahukimo) will be the delivery points of goods from the sea toll.

"The Timika-Wamena route will use cargo flights with two operators from Timika to Dekai," he said.

The former president director of Angkasa Pura II expressed hope that the implementation of the air toll program, which serves an extension of the sea toll, can be effective.

"The hope is also that this format can be developed with a higher capacity and effectiveness," he remarked.

Air toll program was submitted by the government to ease the distribution of goods that are not reachable by sea due to long distances.

With the synergy of the sea and air tolls, the price disparity between the western and eastern regions can be suppressed resulting in economic equity
