Attack to Novel indicates a fight back from corruptors: Jusuf Kalla

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla gave instruction to the police to be serious and quick in handling the attack to Novel Baswedan. On early Tuesday, Novel who is the investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission was attacked with chemical liquid by two assailants who ride a motorcylcle. 

According to Kalla, the incident indicates there was a fight back from parties involved in mega corruption scandal. Kalla could not named which case might related to the attack. "Impossible if it happend because of small case. It's got to be big case since the attack conducted by hired criminals," he said at his office on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, at the crime scene, the police found an evidence of the cup alleged used as container for chemical liquid. The police were still investigating the substance left in the evidence. "We will investigate the substance and the source," Public Relations of National Police Commissioner Martinus Sitompul said. 

The police still did not know the motive behind the attack. Novel was one of KPK investigator assigned in the team who handle mega corruption scandal on e-ID procurement. The case involved some important figures. Martinus reluctant to relate the attack with the corruption case. "Law enforcement official duty indeed is full of risk," he said.
