REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Members of the Student Executive Board (BEM) in Jabodetabek held a demonstration at the Horse Statue, Gambir, Central Jakarta. The demonstration named as ‘Aksi Bela Rakyat 121’ has conducted since 11:00 am.
The mass of students came to the site. They sang the songs of revolution. They did a march to the front of the Presidential Palace to deliver their aspirations.
The coordinator of the demonstration, Ihsan Munawar, said there are three demands submitted to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the Vice President Jusuf Kalla. "There are three demands we want to deliver and we want to meet Jokowi," said Ihsan today in the site.
Three requirements of the masses in the demonstration were:
1. the repeal of the Government Regulation (PP) No. 60 in 2016 on the tariff increase of the type of state income taxes or non-tax revenues which applied by the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia.
2. the rejection of the new basic electricity tariff for the class of 900 VA and urged to turn back on the subsidies for basic electricity tariff class of 900 VA.
3. the return of the pricing mechanism of fuel to the government and ensure the availability of subsidized fuel across the gas station.
BEM also claimed that the same action was held simultaneously in 19 points in Indonesia, among others Aceh, Padang, Riau, Jambi, Palembang, Bengkulu, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Samarinda, Banjarmasin, Pontianak, Mataram, Gorontalo, and Merauke.
