Three Chinese face deportation for conducting illegal business in Papua

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PAPUA -- The Immigration Office in Sorong, West Papua Province, plans to deport three Chinese citizens for violating their visit permit guidelines by conducting illegal business.

Aryaduta Barus, head of the office's immigration law enforcement section, stated here on Friday that they had been sent to Jakarta aboard a Batik Air plane from the DEO airport in Sorong from where they would later be deported to their country of origin.

He revealed that according to schedule, they would leave Jakarta on Saturday. "The Chinese citizens are being deported for violating the law and conducting illegal business activity despite only holding visit permits," he noted.

He explained that the three were arrested by an immigration team during an operation to monitor foreigners on December 31, 2016. "They were caught in a warehouse on Panjahitan Street in Sorong City while purchasing fish caught by the local people to be then shipped to China through Jakarta," he remarked.

He said their activity was illegal, as it was a violation of their stay permits, and therefore, they had been arrested for deportation.
