REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief General Tito Karnavian has been invited to Fiji to attend discussions on the handling of transnational crimes. "Polri was invited to Fiji as a member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), where it is expected to share its experience in the handling of transnational crimes," General Tito said here on Wednesday.

The Indonesian police chief will attend the 1st Police Ministers Meeting, themed "Enhance Partnership for a Secure MSG Region," at Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi City, on Dec 14-15.

General Tito will be accompanied by the Indonesian ambassador to Fiji and other top police officers. He said Polri has established cooperation with a number of member countries of the MSG to increase the capacity of human resources, particularly through a guest student program at the Middle Leadership School. "An educational program is also being offered at the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation," noted Tito.

He hoped cooperation among police institutions in the region would lead to increased security and that relations between Indonesia and the other MSG members would continue to develop successfully. Tito stressed that relations and cooperation among nations are key to stopping transnational crimes.

Among the state officials who will be attending the meeting are Fiji Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Solomon Under Secretary of Police Marctus Forau, Vanuatu Deputy Commissioner of Police Willie Ben, Papua New Guinea Minister of Independent State Robert Atiyfa, Chairman of the MSG Police Ministers Meeting Peter Shanel, and Director General of MSG Amena Yauvoli.
