Langkat Police destroys 53kg of marijuana

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LANGKAT -- Police of Langkat District, North Sumatra province, on Wednesday destroyed 53 kilograms (kg) of marijuana confiscated from several suspects arrested for the trafficking of narcotics in the region.

The evidence was destroyed by burning, and was witnessed by representatives of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and officials of the local authority, Chief of Langkat Police Resort Office Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mulya Hakim Solichin said here Wednesday.

The packages of marijuana was confiscated in several operations. Four kilograms of marijuana was confiscated from HA who was traveling on a public bus in Langkat. Other packages of 21kg of marijuana was secured from MUA and BAH after the two suspects were arrested in a public vehicle.

Another big haul was confiscated from YP who was caught red handed with 10kg of marijuana while traveling in a public bus from Aceh to Medan. "We urge the society to work together and prevent any form of drug abuse, and ensure that this region is free from these illicit goods," the police chief said.

The police will continue to conduct routine inspections on the Trans-Sumatran Highway where people are traveling from Aceh to Medan to prevent drugs distribution, Chief of Narcotics Division of Langkat Police Office Adjunct Commissioner Supriyadi Yantoto said. "We will intensify the operation at the border of Langkat and Aceh as the drug distributors are suspected to transport the marijuana out of Aceh by any possible means. They might use under-aged children, and even elderly people," Yantoto said.
