Zaskia Adya Mecca no longer supports Ahok

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian artist Zaskia Adya Mecca released a video as a clarification. She said recently an old video has been reposted, In that video, Zaskia praised Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).

Zaskia said it was old video and no longer relevant to current conditions. Moreover, Ahok involved with a case of alleged religious blasphemy of the Alquran.

"Assalamualaikum. I created the video without any intention to support or attack any party This was my clarification on my (old) video which circulating about my testimony on Mr Ahok as Jakarta Governor one year ago. So, it was not relevant when juxtaposed with Mr. Ahok who quoted surah Al Maidah (verse 51). I am a Muslim and I believed Islam is the perfect religion. I believed the truth of the Alquran, hadith, and also sunnah. So if someone insulted my religion, the Alquran, hadith, and also sunnah, surely the person in opposite with me. And I hoped, Indonesia with its diverse communities and cultures, could maintain the integrity, not easily vilified, instigated, and could not easily to be divided, and we could be fair community. Aamiin," said Zaskia in her latest video.

Previously, in a video that was recorded last year, Zaskia made a confession about her admiration for Ahok's performance. She also attended an event that seems held by Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok). "Why I'm here, and I am part of Teman Ahok? Honestly, Ahok was awesome figure for me and had the special impression for me,'' she said when videotaped.
