REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto reviewed Japanese industrial expansion in Indonesia during his visit to Japan from October 13 to 16, 2016. "During the visit we saw, one by one, the problems they face today, and asked about their commitment to investment plans in Indonesia," the minister remarked via a press release, received here on Tuesday.

Hartarto said Toyota Motor Corp will increase its capital to Rp20 trillion in Indonesia by 2019. "Their commitment was presented to President Joko Widodo during his visit to Japan, some time ago. Currently, the investment has reached Rp10 trillion," he said.

Minister Hartarto visited Japan to explore investment opportunities in the industrial sector. "The point of the working visit to Japan is to discuss the development of industry and investment between the two countries in the future," said Hartarto.

The visit was in connection with plans of some Japanese companies to invest in Indonesia. On the agenda were bilateral meetings with representatives of the Japanese government and businesses, including Japan's minister of economy, trade and industry and chairman of Indonesia-Japan Parliamentary League.

Hartarto was accompanied by I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan, director general of metal, machinery, transportation equipment and electronics (ILMATE) industries. The minister said they sought to obtain information and receive an overall understanding of investment and the development of technology in Japan's industrial sector, such as in the automotive sector. "We plan to visit Daihatsu's research and development facilities, as the company is committed to the development of the automotive sector in Indonesia and to making the country a production base for export markets," he said.
