REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The free port and trade zone of Batam, Riau Islands province, wants to run high-tech industries in order to improve its added value, the Head of Batam free port and trade zone, Hatanto Reksodipoetro, said here on Monday.
"We will ensure that Batam has a high added value. Therefore, we want high-tech industries run in the free trade zone," he added.
According to him, industries that generate high added values would contribute more to the state revenue. Among high-tech industries he mentioned are maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), shipyard, animation and information technology.
"We are expecting such industries to run in Batam," Hatanto stated.
He noted that the Batam Management Board is improving the permit system to make it more efficient and accountable.
In addition, the board is implementing a system to manage land allocation and utilization. "We are optimizing processes for obtaining permits by applying online," Hatanto informed.
However, the online system is still not available for land allocation as it is complicated, he added.
