REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Google removes the word 'Palestine' from its Middle East map. Indonesia Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara speaks about this hottest issue.

Rudiantara said he already asked Google why Palestinian gone from Google maps. The minister stated Google makes its maps based on membership of the United Nations (UN) which Palestinian status is only observer.

"Google refers to UN, Palestinian status is observer, not a full member yet," Rudiantara said at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta on Wednesday (10/8).

Rudiantara added that the Indonesia government supports the world to recognize the existence of Palestine. Indonesia government's position, Rudiantara affirmed, fully support Palestinian independence. Rudiantara said foreign policy totally supported the existence of Palestine.

Independent.co.uk reported over 150,000 people have criticised Google for removing Palestine from Google Maps. Much of the Middle-Eastern media, along with Twitter and Facebook users, are demanding that Google relabel the region, or even all of Israel, as 'Palestine'.
