REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that several provinces in Indonesia will experience extreme weather from August 6 to 8.
Some provinces, such as Aceh, East Kalimantan, Maluku, West Papua and Papua will see heavy rains, BMKG said on its official website on Saturday.
The provinces, which have the potential to see heavy rains, coupled with thunder/flash and strong winds are West Java, Central Java, East Java Timur, West Nusa Tenggara and Central Sulawesi.
The extreme climate will be the result of the meeting of an air mass in the South China Sea up to the Pacific Ocean north of Papua and the turning winds in the Makassar Strait up to Seram Sea.
High humidity in most parts of Indonesia will support the process of cloud growth in the areas, the agency said.
BMKG has also issued an early notice of extreme weather, which is expected to take place on August 7 in several areas of the country.
The agency also called on people living in northern, western and southern Aceh to stay alert for strong winds, which are expected to occur on August 7.
It also issued an early notice on high waves in the sea, asking the people of West Nusa Tenggara to stay away from.
