REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- All planning for the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi toll road construction in East Java has been completed and the project has now entered the next stage, which is the tendering process, a cabinet minister said.

"Planning of the project has been finished and now it has entered the tender process," Public Works and Public Housing Minister Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono said when delivering a keynote address at an international seminar at the Surabaya Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS) here on Tuesday.

The minister said the toll road project did not face any significant land clearance problems, since only about half of the land affected is to be settled through the tender mechanism while the remaining land already belongs to the government.

"Of the total land, about 50 km will be used for the toll road construction. If I am not mistaken, it belongs to the state-owned plantation company, PTPN. This can be used first while the remaining land can follow later," the minister added.

Last month, Minister Basuki had met with State-owned Enterprises Minister Rini Sumarno in Jakarta to discuss ways to expedite the infrastructure development in the northern coastal area of Java (Pantura).

The issue of the Trans Java toll road project was also discussed, including the construction of the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi toll road. The toll road projects should be focused upon to overcome the traffic gridlocks in Java Island.

Basuk set a target of completing the construction of the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi toll road by 2019. Therefore, planning for it has been completed this month, and pre-qualification auction will follow next.
