REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MUARA TEWEH -- Thousands of people, including a group of 62 students, workers (SKPD), and individual citizens, participated in the "Batara Carnaval 2016" parade, enlivening North Barito Regency's 66th anniversary celebrations.
The carnival parade was kicked off by Barito Utara Regent Nadalsyah with the raising of a flag at Jalan Pramuka or Swakarya District Stadium, Muara Teweh, on Sunday.
The "Batara Carnaval" was also attended by Vice Regent Ompie Herby, Chairman of Parliament Set Enus Y. Mebas, Regional Secretary Jainal Abidin, and other officials.
The parade was enlivened by the participation of students from primary school to colleges as well as SKPD.
The event was an opportunity for the participants to showcase their talent in front of the regent, vice regent, and other officials. Dances featured at the parade comprised those typical to the region as well as dance forms from outside the area, such as the Reok Ponorogo and lumping horse dances.
Moreover, a participant demonstrated the silat martial arts techniques and handed over a memento as well as a high-quality product to Regent H. Nadalsyah and his wife, Hj Sri Hidayati. The organizers also provided various forms of entertainment by showcasing the performances of local artists.
Meanwhile, Elpi Elpannop, the organizing committee's chairman, stated that thousands of people, including a group of 62 students, SKPD, and individual citizens, participated in the Batara Carnaval.
The routes covered by the participants included the start from the front of the Swakarya Stadium, Muara Teweh, to Jalan A. Yani, Tomonggong Soerapatti, Merak, Imam Bonjol and then back to Jalan A. Yani and concluding at the starting point of the parade.
"The best entries will be assessed by an independent team and will be awarded prizes in categories: schools, SKPD, and general public," he added.
