REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) has confirmed that Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will conduct large-scale evictions. Ahok affirmed the eviction is important because to run the projects in the Jakarta.
But Ahok said the timing of the eviction will be adjusted to the availability of cheap apartments. He is optimistic the construction of cheap apartments this year can facilitate relocation of residents.
Besides, Ahok acknowledged, the number of evictions this year will increase. Last year, the evictions were in 113 locations, and this year amounted to 325 locations.
"Depending on availability of cheap apartments," he said, on Tuesday (28/6).
Ahok said massive evictions conducted in order to run the program of Jakarta provincial government. Especially program to handle flood like the normalization of rivers and embankment construction in the coastal of Jakarta.
"We're making embankment in coastal of Jakarta, include the river," he said.
As reported previously, the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) recorded 325 locations prone to evicted in all of Jakarta region during this year. The areas are spread in five regions of Jakarta. As many as 55 locations located in West Jakarta, 54 locations in North Jakarta, 57 locations in Central Jakarta, 77 locations in South Jakarta, and 82 locations in East Jakarta. Known, data of the number and location of the eviction sourced from the city budget in 2016. The object targeted for the plan is quite varied, such as settlements, street vendors (PKL), until the houses are located along the riverbanks.
