REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTITANAK -- Mayor of Pontianak, Sutarmidji suspect there is a sense of omission by the Malaysian side because drugs in large quantities has easily entered West Kalimantan (Indonesia) from Malaysia.

"He said, Malaysia has sophisticated equipments, therefore why is it that large amounts of drugs can pass through the border crossing them," said Sutarmidji in London on Tuesday.

Sutarmidji explained, if it’s true that Malaysia should have advanced equipment, why has several times the delivery of drugs in large quantities could easily move through. "It could be done politically to weaken Indonesia. This is unquestionable to the Malaysian side," he said.

Previously, Liaison Officer (LO) Malaysian Police in Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak, ASP Muhammad Ibrahim said, the border of Sarawak (Malaysia) - Kalimantan Barat (Indonesia) are vulnerable to drug smuggling.

"The problem of drug smuggling through the border gate is not only a problem in Indonesia, especially in Kalimantan, but also a serious concern for the Government of Malaysia," he said.

According to him, the two countries still lack sophisticated facilities to detect drugs, especially those that enter through the border. "We always coordinate with each other in Kuching province, if anyone is caught in West Kalimantan that, related to the smuggling of large quantity of drugs it will be taken seriously with punishable consequences.  The drugs attack is not only in West Kalimantan  but in Kuching province as well," he said.
