REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Researchers from PARA Syndicate, FS Swatoro said chairman of Golkar party Setya Novanto must removed the oligarchy in the internal his party to can reach successful in the election in 2019.

"Until 2019, Novanto do not let the oligarchs’ eroded Golkar party. If that happens, Golkar in Election 2019 seems rather gloomy," FS Swatoro stated in a discussion titled ‘Maneuver Golkar Party: Promises in Presidential Election 2019 and Reshuffle Delayed" in Jakarta, Friday (27/5).

Swantoro see even though Setnov has been elected as chairman, but the atmosphere of the oligarchs in the internal Golkar is still clearly visible. He warned in the 2014 elections under the leadership of Abu Rizal Bakrie was only received 14.75 percent, or 91 parliamentary seats. He estimated that in 2019, Golkar can get lower seats.

He advised Setya Novanto followed the footsteps of Akbar Tandjung and Prabowo that have ever got a negative image but able to reverse the situation. At the end of the New Order (orde baru) era in 1998, Akbar Tandjung was able to seize the leadership of Golkar by beating Edy Sudrajat. At that time, Akbar got a negative perception because of political sin of the new order (orde baru).

But Akbar made the breakthrough by holding convention of the  Golkar chairman that was held in 2003, so his image turned positive in 2004 to bring Golkar winning the election. Prabowo, was also similar to Akbar. Initially Prabowo get negative perception due to his alleged involvement in the May 1998 riots. But Prabowo was able to neutralize teh issue and made into positive situation by establishing Gerindra party and bring his party was in the top three in the election in 2014.

"If Novanto can do that, he could do such thing like Prabowo and Akbar Tandjung, and at least Golkar can still get 14 percent of the vote in elections in 2019," Swantoro argued.
