REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Media has an important role in conducting "second diplomacy" to unite Muslims worldwide in realizing Palestine's independence and addressing Middle East conflicts, stated Secretary General of the Indonesian Muslims Intellectuals Association (ICMI) Mohammad Ja'far Hafsa.
Hafsa remarked here on Thursday that Palestine was a country in the Middle East that had earlier supported Indonesia's independence, and therefore, it was time to reciprocate the gesture.
"The main thing is how Palestine equates global perception or view in addressing the issues. Unity among Palestinians is needed as a major capital to seek solutions to realizing Palestinian independence," he pointed out.
Furthermore, Hafsa noted that the media can contribute significantly in unifying Muslims across the world in various ways, especially by taking steps to resolve conflicts in the Middle East region.
To this end, Hafsa said the ICMI had praised the International Conference of Islamic Media (ICIM) being held on May 25-26, 2016.
The ICMI secretary general lauded the ICIM, which was crucial for mainstreaming the Palestinian issue since it had become a global concern that should be echoed persistently.
