Transjakarta plans to buy 250 lower deck buses

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Transjakarta (Ltd) planned to buy 250 units of buses with lower deck design.

"The plan is, we want to buy 250 units of lower deck buses. By doing so, we can accommodate transportation need for people with disabilities," Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) stated on Monday (23/5).

He added, 250 buses will be operated in the left lane and not on special Transjakarta bus lane or busway.

"Besides, the buses is free and the passengers do not have to pay. So, we operate in the left lane, not on the busway," Ahok explained.

He hope there will be more people leaving private vehicles and moved to public transport to doing daily activities.

Meanwhile, President Director of Transjakarta (Ltd) Budi Kaliwono reveal they provide budget amount Rp750 billion for the purchase of lower deck buses. For the buying process, the company is still waiting for the process in the agency for Procurement of goods and services (LKPP).

"The purchase will be done through electronic catalogs or e-catalogs LKPP. We target at the end of 2016 or early 2017, the lower deck buses that can be operated," Budi agued.
