DPD encourages regional law againts alcohol applicable in all regions

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Vice Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD) Farouk Muhammad supported the efforts the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), which supports regional regulation (perda) of alcohol in the local area.

He said, Kemendagri have positive role in strengthening the efforts of local government (pemda) to prevent the effect of alcohol that is increasingly alarming.

He said alcohol has cause a lot of negative impact in areas in Indonesia. Such as criminal acts, social conflict, until casualties.

"The emergence of regulations that limit to prohibit alcohol, is form of reaction to the anxiety about alcohol problems," said Farouk Muhammad in his press conference on Monday (23/5).

Indonesia’s interior minister Tjahjo Kumolo in Semarang, Saturday (21/5) to clarify issues related about the lifting of alcohol regulations. He insisted all areas need to have perda that arrange about prohibition of liquor/alcohol. He said that regulations on the alcohol prohibition should be enforced. He also ask local government consistent in applying these rules.

Previously, the Interior Ministry will cancel the 3.266 local regulations that hampered investment and development. Legislation banning alcohol that will be revoked, such as in Papua, Yogyakarta and West Nusa Tenggara.
