ICMI asks media not to reveal name of the victims of sexual violence

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Islamic Intellectuals Association (ICMI) urged media not to publish the identity of victims of sexual violence. Because the victim's family will get the psychological burden, especially if the victim not passed away.

‘’Do not show the face, parents, home address, and schools so that no double suffering," said the coordinator of the Protection of Women, Children, and Adolescents ICMI Andi Yuliani Paris in Jakarta, Thursday (19/5).

The media also should not use vulgar words when reported the rape cases. Andi compares media in Indonesia and Germany.

"I had ever school in Germany. Germany media using subtle language when reported case of rape," said Andi.

ICMI also asked Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) should be reprimand show that explores the identity of victims of sexual violence or containing pornographic contents. Instead, ICMI urged the media  topublish the identity of the perpetrators of sexual violence.

"The identity of the perpetrator should be announced and when they get sentenced so that people know when offenders severely punished," he said.

ICMI wanted to participate to fight sexual crimes on children. Not only at the central level ICMI, but also in regions throughout the organization at the provincial, regional organizations at the city, and organizational units at the district level.
