REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) plans to build a power plant at the Kualanamu airport of Medan to guarantee power supply for the international airport.
"We already carried out a feasibility study to build a 15-megawatt gas fired power plant in cooperation with PT Adhi Karya and PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas)," President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Budi Karya Sumadi said.
However, the result of the feasibility study could not be implemented as ideally the airport needs a power plant with a capacity of 50 MW," Budi said here on Wednesday.
The state-owned companies - construction company Adhi Karya, oil and gas company Pertamina and the national power utility PLN - would discuss the plan further, he said.
Earlier, PT AP II, state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya and state owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) had agreed to build a 50MW gas fired power plant at the International Airport of Soekarno Hatta, Tangerang, Banten, to be completed in 2017.
The power plant is needed especially with the expansion of the airport with the Terminal 3 Ultimate, to be operational in 2017 and a cargo village at the M1 Gate.
The Kualanamu airport, which is located 39 kilometers from Medan is in the process of building facilities to improve its services.
Currently the government is building a railroad between Medan and Kualanamu. Around 6 kilometers of the 27.8 kilometers track are elected.
The project, which is already 80 percent completed will cost around Rp2.8 trillion.
