REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) has proposed the revival of the now defunct State Policy Guidelines (GBHN) for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"MPR as the home of our people has received various parties, who came to convey their views and we accepted them," MPR Chairman Zulkifli Hasan said at the Presidential Office here on Thursday.

Some of them opined that the state needs to revert to the original 1945 Constitution, while others suggested that it should no longer be amended and should be kept as it is, he said.

However, the other parties were of the view that the Indonesian nation needs state policy guidelines, he said.

"MPR has held joint meetings twice. At the meetings, we have received inputs suggesting that MPR should take gradual steps. As the inputs concern an amendment to the constitution, MPR must take caution," he said.

Responding to a proposal to reinstate the GBHN, he said all factions in MPR, including the Regional Representative Council (DPD) have agreed to it.

But several steps still have to be taken, he said.

"We only act as a spokesman that makes an agreement after listening to inputs from all sides. We will hold a FGD (focus group discussion), which will involve all parties," he said.

He expressed hope that all steps aimed at achieving comprehensive results for study related to state policy guidelines can be taken this year.
