REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Justice and Human Rights Ministry, in cooperation with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), has carried out urine drug tests on 44 thousand employees of the ministry across the country.

The initiative was part of its efforts to support the national drug eradication campaign.

"Till now, we have not received the results. Later, BNN will report the results to us," the ministry's spokesman, Effendy B Perangin Angin, said here on Monday.

Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said he would impose severe sanctions on anyone proven to have been using drugs or involved in drug trafficking. They could even be fired from the ministry.

The results of the tests would be made public, he added.

Director of the Public Participation Affairs of the BNN, Sinta Dame Simanjuntak, expressed her appreciation to the minister for having conducted the drug tests.

"In Jakarta, some two thousand personnel underwent urine tests. These results must be processed first, and should be followed up," she added.

If BNN finds any results as positive, the agency will conduct further laboratory tests to make sure that these were not due to any medicinal drugs such as those for cough, she noted.
