REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKULU -- Government authorities are investigating the fire incident in the Malabero prison in Bengkulu city on Friday night (March 25), in which at least five inmates were killed, to determine who was responsible, an official has said.
"The investigation will help identify the provocateur," head of Penitentiary Division of Justice and Human Rights Ministry of the Bengkulu provincial office, Sunar Agus, said here on Saturday.
A fire swept through the Malabero jail in Bengkulu city on Friday night, killing at least five inmates, local Police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ardian Indra Nurinta stated on Saturday.
"The bodies of five victims have been evacuated to Bhayangkara hospital here for ante and postmortem," he said.
The victims were identified as Agung Nugraha, Heru Biliantoro, Agus Purwanto, Hendra Nopiandi and Medi Satria, according to him.
The Malabero jail accommodates 259 inmates, and while five were killed in the fire Friday night, no one escaped from the prison, Nurinta said.
