REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya City fire Department plans to build another fire fighting post in Sukomanunggal or Joyoboyo as part of efforts to optimize its performance.
"We don't know exactly whether it will be built in Sukomanunggal or Joyoboyo. We are still coordinating with the city office of human settlements," head of the Surabaya City Fire Department Chandra Oratmangun said here on Sunday.
To date, Surabaya has 20 fire fighting posts. In total, they employ 774 fire fighters.
"They work on four shifts at each post. They always monitor the situation with handy talky (HT) or radio in case of fire," he said.
He said the number of fire fighters is enough to fight fires in several parts of the city.
"This year we will recruit 50 more personnel. I think the number is quite ideal," he said.
