REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Terra and Aqua satellites detected 69 hotspots across Sumatra Island on Sunday.

Of the total hotspots, 53 hotspots were found in Riau and 16 in North Sumatra, Head of the Pekanbaru Meteorology Office Sugarin said here, Sunday.

In Riau, 19 hotspots were detected in Bengkalis, 18 in Dumai, seven in Meranti Islands District, one respectively in Indragiri Hulu and Indragiri Hilir Districts.

He said 37 hotspots in Riau indicated forest and plantation fires.

On Saturday, 53 hotspots were also detected in Riau Province.
