REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- The Batam Administration Agency (BP Batam) is set to finish the construction of the Rp64 billion Telaga Punggur port project in November 2016.

"Construction is still underway with completion around 42 percent at present. Hopefully it will be operational in November this year," BP Batam spokesman Purnomo Andiantono said here on Tuesday.

The general port project that would serve as the main port to link the city of Batam and the Riau Islands capital Tanjungpinang, has been under construction since last year.

It is designed to become one of the best seaports in Indonesia, as convenient as an international port, Purnomo said.

The first floor of the port building would be around 3,000 square meters to be used for parking lot, shops and office rooms.

The second floor 3,030 square meters, would be for departure area, and port administration offices, and the third floor, also around 3,030 square meter in size would be for arrival area and ticket counter.

The fund for the port project is provided by the finance ministry.

BP Batam also has started construction of the Sekupang domestic port to link Batam with other areas in the Rou Islands province, and other provinces including Riau and Jambi in mainland Sumatra.
