Hotspots detected on Sumatra Island

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Terra and Aqua satellites detected 47 hotspots across Sumatra Island on Friday despite rains over the past two days, according to the Pekanbaru meteorology station.

The number increased from 45 hotspots detected on Thursday afternoon, Slamet Riyadi of the local meteorology office stated.

Of the 47 hotspots, 16 were found in Aceh, 15 in Riau, 12 in North Sumatra, and two respectively in Bengkulu and Lampung.

In Riau Province, nine hotspots were detected in Bengkalis District, two in Siak, and one respectively in the districts of Pelalawan and Meranti Islands.

On Thursday afternoon, the satellites detected 43 hotspots comprising 15 in Aceh, 12 each in North Sumatra and Riau, and two each in Bengkulu and Lampung.

Of the 12 hotspots in Riau, eight were found in Bengkalis, two in Siak, and one each in the districts of Pelalawan and Meranti Islands.
