REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Director of the Research Insitute for Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics of Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI), Oesmena Gunawan said he and his team will continue to make efforts to transform Jakarta as a kosher (halal) city.
"The integrated steps are needed to realize it," Oesmana told Republika.
He explained Indonesian Ulama Council invited relevant parties, such as tourism, cooperative and small and medium enterprises, and other industry in Jakarta. These relevant parties asked to be involved in order to realize Indonesia's capital as a kosher city.
He said at least there are four steps that need to be done with the relevant parties. The first step is to record all of food products in Jakarta and to make kosher pre-certification.
The second step is to do socialization to employers or manufacturers that sell or distribute their food products in Jakata. Moreover, the third step is to provide guidance.
"We will guide them to make products more feasible and consistent, so the quality of the products is guaranteed," Oesmena said.
According to Oesmana, another step that needs to be done is to train human resources that work to produce food. It was important to make them understand how to create the good products, but also kosher.
Nevertheless, although Jakarta was planned to be a kosher city, it didn't mean all food products that circulate in this capital city must get kosher certificate.
"All the food products that are forbidden by Islam must be clear. Starting from ingredients and the other contains, all must be written on the food label, so people in Jakarta feel comfortable," he added.
