REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- General chairman of Golkar Party Aburizal Bakrie has expressed a hope that the party will be able to hold its extraordinary national congress or Munaslub this year.
"The national leadership meeting (Rapimnas) should immediately take measure over the implementation of the Munaslub. If the Munaslub is needed, I suggest that it can be held before the fasting month (of Ramadhan) this year," Aburizal stated in his speech to the opening ceremony of the national leadership meeting of Golkar Party, one of Indonesia's largest political parties, here on Saturday night.
According to him, if Golkar's Munaslub is carried out before this year's fasting month which is expected to be coinciding with July 2016, thus Golkar will have enough time to have consolidation in a bid to compete in the 2017 regional elections (Pilkada).
"I hope all participants of the Rapimnas will take decisions clearly. As the general chairman of the party, I will abide by the decision," Aburizal, better known as Ical, said.
Ical did not specifically say if he would join the Munaslub which will be conducted by the party's transitional team led by Jusuf Kalla, the former Golkar Party's general chairman and currently vice president of Indonesia.
Rapimnas of the Golkar Party was opened by Prof. B.J. Habibie, former president of Republic of Indonesia.
