REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMPIT -- Some 400 houses in the villages of Basirih Hilir and Samuda Kota in Kotawaringin district, Central Kalimantan province, have been flooded over the past few days.
Also, Basirih Hilir village has been flooded by knee-deep waters since January 12, local resident Ubaidillah said here on Wednesday.
The flood occurred after the Sapihan River overflowed its banks.
Although the flood has shown no sign of receding, local residents are reluctant to abandon their flooded homes, he said.
Ubaidillah added that poor waterworks were also responsible for the continuing flood.
Meanwhile, head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Office at H Asan Airport Yulida Warni said the intensity of rainfalls in East Kotawaringin district over the past few days remains above normal levels.
