PT Semen Indonesia to build plants in three regions

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- State-owned cement company PT Semen Indonesia Tbk. is planning to build three plants this year, one each in Aceh in Sumatra, Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara and Papua.

The company's deputy for Rembang cement plant project in Rembang, Central Java, Ari Wardhana, said here on Saturday that these three plants were being set up with the aim take production to 100 million tons by 2030, the target set by the government.

He said of the three regions, Aceh was in a state of maximum readiness for the realization of the plant project located in the district of Pidi.

Ari said around 1,500 hectares of land in Pidi has been made available in cooperation with PT Samana.

The plant in Aceh, with an expected production capacity of three million tons a year and an investment of Rp4.4 trillion, would be set up by September 2016 to help meet the national target, he said.

He said the Papua project would be set up in Manokwari, West Papua, and will have a production capacity of up to 2.5 million tons a year.

"In Papua, the infrastructure has been good but the market is still small. Hopefully, it will increase once the project is implemented," he said.

He said at present, PT Semen Indonesia is still in the process of completing work at its plant in Rembang, Central Java, which is expected to start operating by October this year.

The plant in Rembang is located on a 57 hectare plot of land with a limestone potential for 130 years, absorbing an investment of Rp4.452 trillion.

Before officially starting production, the plant will start production on a trial basis from March to April this year, he said.
