Police says ISIS behind Jakarta attack

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General of Police Tito Karnavian said that his force is conducting the search of perpetrators of terror attacks network in the area of Sarinah, MH Thamrin Street, Central Jakarta.

"The team is pursuing the perpetrators network, which still has to do with ISIS network," he said at the State Palace on Thursday (14/1).

Tito explained, the group behind Sarinah attack is from ISIS cell of Southeast Asia led by Bahrun Nain. ISIS network in Indonesia formed under the command of ISIS group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

"So the network of actors still connected with ISIS network in Raqqa (Syria). Formerly, their first strategy only to operate in Syria and Iraq then there is the command of Abu Bakr Baghdadi to establish branches around the world, including in Southeast Asia. For Southeast Asia, one of the cells is exist in Indonesia, "he explained.
